Effective home remedy for LPR

The product arrived quickly and was as advertised. I thought I'd try sodium alginate after reading that it's the main ingredient of Gaviscon Advance. Several studies have indicated that Gaviscon Advance (G.A.) is the most effective treatment for LPR. (Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor) Since it's only sold in Europe, G.A. is difficult and costly to acquire in the States. My DIY version is simple: about a 2:1 ratio of sodium alginate to baking soda in a small amount of water. That's about 1/8 tsp sodium alginate in 1 tablespoon of water. I have to add the sodium alginate very slowly to the liquid, as it globs easily. I use a shot glass, and stir rapidly with a chop-stick while shaking the powder in. Then I let sit for at least half an hour to fully gel up. Ideally, it should be about the consistency of molasses. I take it just before bed, and other times as needed. Along with avoiding acid foods and eating smaller portions, sodium alginate has effectively controlled my symptoms of LPR and related cough. It's a good product, and 4 oz. has lasted a long time. I'll be reordering soon.

Great for dye thickening when tie dying

This works great for a dye thickener. I have used super clear from Dharma and it did not thicken. This product i am pleased it can be adjusted easily to thickness. I would definitely purchase again for the cost. You get 15 times as much as one container of super clear that is 5.99 for a jar. Super clear cannot be thickened as this can be.Don't be bummed by the size of package when you open it. It is much smaller than it appears. It only requires a small amount. I didnt mix powder with it, I mixed it with water in a mixer, preferrably a beverage blender with a lid. You can do it by hand but it is a long process. This is a great product for dye thickening.

I tried mixing it like I do cornstarch (slowly add water and stir)

Funky stuff - I'm using it to turn die into paint. I tried mixing it like I do cornstarch (slowly add water and stir), What my my husband told me (after the fact, argh) was to add it slowly to the water. Once I got is smoothed out, it created a nice thickener that let me make my own paint.

If you're trying to figure out how to make your own gutta and save money, this is the stuff.

Lowest price on Amazon per ounce. Excellent packaging. Excellent product. If you do fabric art and silk painting using the serti technique and you're looking for a replacement for store bought gutta, this is the stuff. 1 teaspoon calcium alginate, mix with 1 teaspoon alcohol, add 1/4 cup HOT water and blend it up. If you don't blend it, you get an unworkable chunky goop. This will wash out in hot water. Makes as strong of a resist line as any water based gutta.
