Nice set, needs some fettling first...
Bought this a few months back and it's been used for a number of projects so far.The VERY first thing I did though was fine tune it, because it was obvious it needed it, but then at this price you can't expect out-of-the-box smooth running, and if you do, you shouldn't even have a plane in your hands as you obviously know little about woodwork.Once I'd lapped the base and a couple other things it ran smoothly, the blade holds a good sharp edge, certainly enough for basic smoothing, but I found it hard to get a razor sharp one, I guess the steel isn't quite up to it (again the price makes this obvious) so I wouldn't call this a finishing plane.I did have one minor niggle (well 1 niggle twice) which was the 2 bolts that hold the frog to the base got threaded and loose whilst under use, I wasn't excessive with the tool, but I think the bolts used were of very inferior steel as I've not seen a bolt get stripped of it's thread so easily. Not a major problem though and certainly not worth the aggro of returning it as it would only come back with the same type of bolts, so I replaced them myself with slightly larger better steel ones and so far all's good, the cast iron frog is easily strong enough to take the extra pressure of fractionally bigger bolts without cracking.Box is junk though, broken on delivery, just like everyone else says, and the set doesn't fit both in with the lid flat unlike the photo, the block plane sits at an awkward angle, neither on its side or base as the mounting blocks inside prevent it. 1st project...make a box :)All in all I'd recommend this as a good cheap set of planes for basic shaping, once it's been given some tuning. 4/5 for the planes 1/5 for the box.

Cheap plane set
Not a plane expert but great for the occasional small jobs around the house. Blade appeared square and sharp on first use.

Not plane sailing
After it arrived it looked great. Opened the box containing the planes and the side of the high quality box fell off. Both planes when I tried them on a plank of wood were blunt so have to buy a sharpening stone extra to sharpen the plane blades.

Well presented boxed set
These planes by "Faithfull" are a well presented boxed set that for my purposes suited me just fine.I already had a larger plane by Faithfull and these seen very similar quality that is very good at the price point that I was looking for.

Planes
I'm not really sure what people expect from these p!anes when they post negative reviews. For under forty quid they are better than should reasonably be expected. No, they aren't top quality, but if that's what you're after then pay top quality prices. Perfectly serviceable tools that require a little attention before use, but nothing drastic. A quick clean up and sharpen and off you go. I'm more than happy with them and would recommend to anyone wanting decent tools at a reasonable prices.

Plane sailing
I have read some bad reviews on this product, but I have found it ideal for the sort of work I do, mainly DIY . I don't know what some people expect for the price. I have found it to do an excellent job in smoothing down rough wood. I find that thin light cuts are best and the blade is easy to rehone and set.as long as you don't try to take massive chunks off in one go its well worth the money.
