UPDATE...I roasted my chestnuts. A+
UPDATE: 7.5.25These were so good I ordered a dozen. This time I baked them @ 350°, added a touch of sea salt and garlic powder.Delicious!---------+After reading the reviews of people stating they are kind of dry and very small I decided to take all 3 bags and bake them in the oven for about 1⁄2 hour or so . I also added a little bit of olive oil and just a touch of salt. When they were done they were edible as a snack or I could cut them up and add them to my salad or to recipes.I do recommend them and I would buy them again using them the way I described above. These chestnuts are not like what you get in the fall at the supermarket at Thanksgiving time.EditI would like to add I roasted all 3 bags together, refrigerated them and they were all gone within 24 hours. Every time I walked part my fridge I would grab a handful as a snack. So again, I highly recommend them! 😊

Not what I expected, would not recommend
Not what I expected. I usually buy my italian brand and washoping these would be similar but they're not. The texture of the chestnuts taste almost like plastic, strange color, did not eat more than 2 of them. Had to throw the rest away. Disappointing..

Not as good as local fresh, but better than nothing
UPDATE Jan 2023Running these through a short cycle in thr toaster oven significantly improves texture & flavor! Of course, you have to keep a close eye on them since they burn easily (yes, I burned my first batch), and you need to use the flat "cookie" sheet that comes with your oven (or a sheet of foil) to keep them from dropping to the bottom. The result not only heats them but firms them up as well, making them more like fresh roasted. YUM!-----------Previously I had not tasted prepackaged chestnuts so I can't compare to another brand. My only experience was with fresh roasted. Compared to those, these packaged chestnuts are just okay. These are very (very!) soft and slightly sticky, and don't smell roasted (or even good). However, taste-wise they do still satisfy my craving for chestnuts, and since my local grocers no longer carry fresh chestnuts at any time of year, these are better than zero chestnuts. (My experience with fresh roasted chestnuts is that they are dry (not sticky) and while not precisely crunchy, definitely not soft, with a firm, satisfying chew.)For those who have never had fresh roasted chestnuts, you are missing one of Mother Nature's greatest delights! Well worth the effort to roast and peel. Just be careful when you buy them that they are truly fresh. Chestnuts are moderately perishable and, unlike other nuts, need refrigeration if they are to be kept for any length of time. They can be moldy inside without showing any sign outside. If you are allergic to mold, give them a good sniff before buying to see if your nose reacts. If it doesn't, you're good to go. (If you aren't allergic, when you get home, cut an X when piercing - see below - to look inside each nut for mold.)If you've never roasted chestnuts before, be sure to read a few recipes before doing the deed yourself (personally, I've never washed my chestnuts since I'm not eating the skin, but apparently that's a thing now, and it could increase roasting time from what it would be for dry nuts). Oven temps vary greatly so keep an eye on them after the first 15 minutes... and don't forget to pierce the skins before you roast or else you'll be cleaning tiny chestnut bits from the inside of your oven!!! (Yes, the voice of experience, lol!)

An acquired taste
The item was great. Packaged well, arrived soon. But here's the rub - I didn't like them. Kinda like mushy grapes. No one's fault. I was trying something new to better my diet. I'd never tried chestnuts before. I only knew them from the song of roasting over an open fire. If you like chestnuts, this is certainly a good buy. But for me, it's goodbye.

Eat right away
They’re good but I did open a bag to find it full of mold once. No idea if it was expired because there’s no expiration date on these packages!
