I have 6 dogs, so this thermometer gives me an extra sense of security. After all, anything can happen to them (tick, injury, inflammation) that can also cause a fever, and in such cases it is important to be able to start reducing the fever immediately. During weekends, long weekends, travel and multi-day holidays, it is especially good to have a thermometer in my Pet First Aid Kit.

Don’t buy this. For the last 2 weeks I’ve been trying to see if there’s a problem with me or the device. Nomad dog temperature is like 99 to102. This device says Lo or 97.5 every time a temperature is taken. And we’ve been tested ig those numbers since we got it. One ear is Lo then 25 seconds later that same ear is 97.5… also it doesn’t even work on humans or if you turn an oven on and stick you hand in with it that answer is Lo 9/10 or 97.5. I think every pet owner should have a thermometer. My dog sometimes feels hot to the touch on her head, and I'm not sure if she is running a fever. I like this thermometer in particular. It's very easy to use, but also has some functions that are very useful.I like that I can toggle between cat and dog mode and I can change the unit of measure from Fº to Cº.My dog is a little skittish when it comes to noises, so I like that I can mute the sound so it doesn't beep right in her ear and cause her to jerk away.My favorite thing is the memory recall feature. It's nice to be able to reference the last temperature taken and not have to record it and refer to it later.In addition, it has a feature that turns off the thermometer automatically in 30 seconds if I don't press anything or set it down. I think of it like a power saver mode that will allow me to get the most out of my AAA batteries. Plus it has a low power indicator.This thermometer came with cotton swabs for cleaning afterwards which is great. Plus it has a cap to keep it dust and dirt free in-between uses.I'm happy with choosing this and I hope it lasts years to come.

Not accurate reading. Even my Vet said to trash it.

My husky has been having some mysterious health issues and the vet has asked for frequent temperature checks. He is very much not a fan of the "traditional" way to check his temp and it's a huge struggle, so I thought I'd try an ear thermometer. My vet did note that they don't consider ear thermometers very accurate for dogs, but better than nothing.The temperatures recorded by this are very inconsistent and it is most likely due to how the device is placed in the ear. The instructions provided show where this should be placed in the ear, but in practice it's difficult to figure out where exactly the right spot is. My lab is a very agreeable guy and put up with me testing this on him repeatedly - it took several dozen tries before I felt comfortable that I was hitting the right spot, and began to get consistent temps. It does indeed read a temp very very quickly, which is nice when dealing with pets.

It seems like this thermometer can give you a general idea if your pet has a fever, but sometimes it can be hard to get an accurate temp if your pet has an ear infection or sensitive ears in general. I'm not a vet tech, but I find it curious as to why they still use the old fashioned way of rectal temperature. Perhaps it is more accurate or safer since the mouth is on the opposite side and a lower chance of being bitten.I'll stick to the ear method and they can stick to the other end.

The media could not be loaded. This ear thermometer is so much easier than trying to take a rectal temperature or an ear temperature with a probe thermometer. It has a little bit of weight to it and feels like it's a high quality piece-- the plastic is very smooth and practically seamless, even by the battery case. It seems to be accurate based on the temperature readings I got from my own dog. I think it's a great value and it's something every pet owner should have on hand.
