I just got this and used it for the first time, with only one cup of rice it boiled so much that it splatted out the vent hole a lot. Is there a fix?
Is this a 6 cup (8oz ea) capacity or are they using a different measuring cup?
Does this cooker come with a prop 65 warning?
Does the rice come out as sticky rice?

Much easier than standing around the stove. Can't mess this up.

As expected. The item is simple and gets the job done. The stainless steel bowl is nice, no plastics in your food and you can remove it from the cooker and eat out of it. Most complaints I read on here about these types of cookers, I found, come from fools who did not bother reading the instructions before use and/or have never cooked rice before. You CANNOT mess this up. It's a hot plate that comes with a bowl and lid. That's it. (Well, and other accessories, but you get the idea.) I cannot fathom any issues coming from anything other than human error when the appliance is so simple.1) If your rice boils over and spills water while cooking it's because you didn't rinse it properly to remove the starches. That's basic rice cooking 101, and is included in the instructions. Spillage (when the stainless steel bowl is anti-spill due to the way its shaped) is nobody's fault but yours, for either overloading the cooker or not rinsing your rice well enough.2) It comes with a plastic measurement cup. This measuring cup, when full, equals 1 industrial rice cup, which comes out to 3/4 of a US cup. This is explicitly stated in the instructions. Overload the cooker with regular US cups and you will have a bad time. I don't feel like looking at the listing again, but a valid complaint about the rice cup COULD be that the including the cooker's capacity in the listing without clarifying what kind of measurement system they're using to make that claim COULD be considered to be deceptive by some.I had a fine experience with it. It's easier than turning on the stove and waiting around to turn the temperature up and down and make sure nothing spills. I leave this thing alone for 30 min and come back to cooked rice. I add frozen veggies with no issue at all. Since it's just a hot plate and a stainless steel bowl you could heat/cook soup in it too. It's light, so I could see it being good for the elderly.TIPS:1) Use it near in open window, or turn the fan on the first time you use it. This is not a complaint, since this happens to nearly every new appliance that heats up, but there is a bit of a chemical smell during first use. It's no problem since no plastic components directly touch the food, it's just the outer casing/body heating up for the first time. Giving it a good wipedown with a damp (not wet) rag before first use, as the instructions suggest, might help.2) Remove the bowl before cleaning or applying downward pressure to it unless you want to damage the inner hot plate. Make sure the bowl is completely dry and clean on the underside before putting it in place and turning on the appliance, for the same reason.3) The bowl can easily be cleaned by either eating your rice while it's still hot and rubbing/rinsing the leftover starches and rice at the bottom before it all has a chance to dry, or letting the bowl soak overnight and getting at it in the morning. I personally scoop all my cooked rice into a bowl the moment it's finished cooking, (careful, hot!) extract the bowl from the appliance, and rub the inside down with a soapy, wet, balled up paper towel to loosen everything up before the leftovers have a chance to dry and stick. Easy.4) Cooking rice produces steam. Duh. Turn the lid so that the vent hole is facing the window or your stove hood fan so that your cabinets don't get humid.5) Don't plug it in until you're ready to start cooking your rice because the appliance automatically starts warming when it's on. It'll change cook times, which may be catastrophic for the inexperienced. Unless your intent is to preheat. All in all: 👍 Yeah. It's useful. Would be better if they clarified what measurement system they were using when they made the listing. It's a small and simple rice cooker with a plastic outer body that warrants no more than a $25 price tag an an updated listing that is not misleading about their product's capacity.

Must have appliance for me!

Handy size since it’s only my wife and I. This cooker delivers consistent results when used as directed. There is a trick to using a rice maker, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS to start and you won’t be disappointed. It’s so much more reliable than cooking rice on a stove, ESPECIALLY if you are a busy cook like me. The automation lets you focus on your entree instead of the rice.Feel free to experiment once you understand the rice to water ratio. If you ignore everything they tell you in the manual, don’t blame the appliance when you produce lousy rice.Keep in mind that the cup that comes with the device is not an American standard “cup” for dry measure, it’s actually less. If you use a standard “cup” you will be adding too much rice and won’t be able to rely on the water markings in the cooking pot. Again, once you understand the principles, experiment away!Once the rice is “cooked” I don’t always leave on the “warm” setting. I find that it often scorches the bottom layer of rice, leaving it hard and unusable.I time everything else so that once the rice is cooked, I shut off the device and remove the lid for several minutes to allow any excess water to evaporate and then serve shortly after. If you’re wondering if you really need or want one, just buy it, you won’t regret it.

Simple, Compact, and Effective – A Pleasant Surprise!

I bought the Aroma Housewares Select Stainless Rice Cooker & Warmer to replace my beloved rice cooker of 12 years, which is sadly no longer made. After an extensive search, I knew I wanted something with a stainless steel pot (no chemical coatings), and I was willing to spend decent money if it meant finding a solid replacement. I actually bought a different rice cooker first, but it turned out to be way too bulky.I ended up purchasing this one just to have something small for my son, who cooks rice regularly. But to my surprise, this little rice cooker completely exceeded my expectations! It’s compact, easy to use, cooks rice quickly, and the stainless steel pot is exactly what I was looking for. It may be simple, but it does the job beautifully, and now I don’t feel the need to upgrade. If you're on the fence, I highly recommend giving it a try!

good little rice cooker

I purchase this little rice cooker 4 yrs ago and it is wonderful. It says 4 cups of rice, but really makes 2 cups of rice. It makes great rice and cooks nicely. Its good for small spaces and for storage. When you make two cups of rice its fills to the top. I have made yellow rice and rice and beans.

Should've got this long time ago

I've been using fancier programmable rice cooker before, everything still functioned well except for the non-stick inner pot start to peel off. Replacement inner pot is expensive, and throwing away the entire cooker felt wasteful. I decide to give this Aroma stainless steel rice cooker a try, needless to say the health benefits over non-stick coating. Before using it for the first time it already exceeded my expectation because it felt a lot heavier than expected. This is due to the inner pot being thick and heavy. Compared to regular rice cooker, to me, this cooker's result is more similar to cast iron stove top cooked rice which produces lovely traditional taste. I used regular short grace rice. Like many other reviewers said, need to soak rice for 10 - 15 minutes before cooking for best result. After scooping out the rice, the bottom has a very thin layer sticked, way less than I originally thought. The pot can be easily cleaned after 10 minutes of soaking. Also, I don't use the keep warm for too long as that could dry out the rice. It's simple on/off operation makes it great fit for controlling by smart plug. For example, just push down start and tell Alexa to turn on rice cooker at 6:30 AM.
